Drake Loses #1 Slot On 2017’s Year-End Spotify List

A new report published by Spotify shows Ed Sheeran has taken Drake’s former title of Most Streamed Artist, amassing 6.3 billion streams for 2017. Drake previously held the title in 2015 and 2016. Last year, Drizzy tallied 4.7 billion streams.

Although Drake has been dethroned, the data shows Hip Hop listening has increased 74 percent since 2016. In fact, two of the Top 5 Most Streamed Artists fall in the Hip Hop category. Drake grabbed the second slot while Kendrick Lamar grabbed the fourth.

Despite being pushed behind Sheeran, Hip Hop and R&B continue to dominate listenership. Drake’s More Life, The Weekend’s Starboy, Lamar’s DAMN. and Post Malone’s Stoney are listed as the most streamed 2017 releases, right after Sheeran’s ÷ (Divide) LP.

Elsewhere on the chart, Migos is listed under Most Streamed Groups, while DJ Khaled’s “I’m The One” is listed as one of the Most Streamed Tracks. Last year saw Drake in this category twice for “One Dance” and “Work” featuring Rihanna. Lastly, newcomers Lil Pump and Trippie Redd are featured in the Top Breakout Artists category.
